The Glasses That Started It All
I Call Them My “Michael Jackson Glove”
For Michael Jackson, while he was alive, his iconic glove was more than just about fashion. In an interview with Cicely Tyson, a pioneering African American actress(now deceased), she told CNN she was there when a fashion designer she was working with began creating the famous glove for Michael Jackson. Tyson says the designer shared that the glove was actually being made to help cover up Michael Jackson’s health condition…Vitiligo. Similarly for me, these glasses, no matter how fashionable, are a tool I have actually used to provide dual health benefits…correcting my eyesight(through using prescription lenses in the frame) and correcting my insight, by looking at the footage captured from my perspective through the lenses to see My Life (again), and review and reflect on what I may have missed. I call this process Immersive Journaling.
Background
The 2020 Life Film is a new type of documentary…one captured through, “Immersive Journaling” with Smartglasses. For Vol. 1 of the film, we used Snapchat Spectacles 2, and started capturing footage daily beginning December 1, 2018. Our Immersive Journaling concept(now trademarked), dates back to 2014 when we recorded our first Life Film using Google Glass. Our goal then, which continues now, is to capture Personal Life content, through Smartglasses, for the purposes of reflection, development and growth. The difference, unlike the first Life Film, the 2020 version will be capturing Life in this way for 10-years (2019–2029). That’s ten years of correcting my eyesight and insight. Which by the time it’s all said and done, will help me usher in another important milestone, turning 50. I can only imagine the woman I’ll become by then. The Good news is, I’ll have all of the Life Content I need to help me better understand her.
