Strength vs. Durability

While on Spring Break, a Life situation came across my path, regarding a marriage of more than 25-years and the possibility of divorce. This upset me, a lot. Partly for the couple, mostly because of everyone else who had been impacted by their Life together, including myself. As I prayed,I thought…how could this happen? What came to mind was not only a mind blowing revelation, it was a message to me for my own marriage. Simply, it boils down to strength and durability. Many times we keep things going in our own strength, for years in fact, but only God can make something durable enough to last a lifetime. When I Googled the difference between strength and durability, I found this on a civil engineering blog, ”Strength is 'how much load will it take? Durability is 'how long it will keep taking it’s designed load?” I was reminded of Psalms 127:1, unless the Lord builds a house, those that labor, labor in vain. Our own labor = strength, God’s labor = durability. I don’t know about you, but I want what I have to stand the test of time. Only God, can make that a reality. So then I ask, is what you have “strong,” or is it “durable”?
